Messi v Mbappe turns nasty ahead of ultimate showdown in World Cup final

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe

Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are ‘enemies’ and there is indisputable proof.

But poor Olivier Giroud will definitely be dropped for the World Cup final showdown between France and Argentina, poor bloke.

The royal we

‘To think that we had presumed England would beat this Morocco team. Not on this evidence. Not with this spirit and dynamism. Not with this support.

‘When England went down to France here at the weekend, we mourned a missed opportunity because we presumed Morocco – defensive, dour Morocco – presented Gareth Southgate’s team with a passage to the final.’

Hold on there, Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail. ‘We’? Mediawatch cannot speak for everyone but we certainly never ‘presumed England would beat this Morocco team’. We absolutely never ‘presumed Morocco – defensive, dour Morocco – presented Gareth Southgate’s team with a passage to the final,’ especially not after they put out Belgium, Spain and Portugal. We never thought of this Morocco team as ‘dour’ in the first place.

Nope. We thought England would have had a chance of beating Morocco if they had made their way past France in the quarter-final. That is how knockout tournaments work; we also thought Morocco would have had a decent opportunity of winning and reaching the final. But at no stage did we, for example, describe this as a ‘gift draw’ for England. That was your risible colleague, with whom we would really rather not be lumped in.

You don’t mess with the Milan
Another of Ladyman’s fellow – and ever so slightly less obsolete – Daily Mail writers seems to be a little confused in his France v Morocco write-up:

‘Hernandez is the first AC Milan player to score in a World Cup this century which shows that even the most storied names have no divine right to succeed.’

A penny for whoever can work out the point of Martin Samuel’s confusion, considering Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao already had six goals between them at this World Cup alone before Hernandez scored.

Milan players have now scored seven times at this World Cup, a new club record which means Samuel could literally not be further from the truth.

Kylian in the name of
It is thoroughly dreadful news that there is now no actual football for three whole days. The World Cup has spoiled us and there is a content void that must be filled. And the plug that most outlets have chosen is EVERYONE HATES EACH OTHER.
