Hamann blasts Ronaldo for a lack of ‘dignity’ over what he did against World Cup heroes Morocco

Cristiano Ronaldo looks dejected

Didi Hamann has hit out at Cristiano Ronaldo for his lack of “dignity” against Morocco after the Portugal international walked off the pitch without congratulating their players.

Ronaldo has caused quite a stir over the past month or so, with his controversial Piers Morgan interview ensuring his time at Man Utd come to an end and reportedly ‘threatened to leave the national team’ at the World Cup.

He reacting angrily to being substituted against South Korea at the World Cup with Portugal boss Fernando Santos putting him on the bench for their next two matches.

Ronaldo came off the bench for 39 minutes against Morocco in their World Cup quarter-final but could not get Portugal back on level terms as the North Africans progressed with a 1-0 win.

Morocco lost their semi-final clash to France last night as the Les Bleus set up a final against Argentina but they still found time to congratulate their opponents.

“And now you watch them; how they shake hands with the French. The dignity and the graciousness they show in defeat – brilliant.”

Following Portugal’s exit from the World Cup, Ronaldo posted a message on social media which reflected on how his World Cup “dream” had “ended”.

“Winning a World Cup for Portugal was the biggest and most ambitious dream of my career,” Ronaldo posted on Instagram.

“Fortunately, I won many titles of international dimension, including for Portugal, but putting the name of our country on the highest level in the world was my biggest dream.

“I fought for it. I fought hard for this dream. In the 5 appearances that I scored in World Cups over 16 years, always alongside great players and supported by millions of Portuguese people, I gave my all.

“I left everything on the field. I never turned my face to the fight and I never gave up on that dream.

“Unfortunately, yesterday the dream ended….
