7 WC records that Kylian Mbappe will smash in his career

There’s no doubt that Kylian Mbappe is a generational talent and having already won one World Cup there are plenty of records that we think he will smash during his career.

The 2018 World Cup was the moment that shot Mbappe into stardom and he hasn’t looked back since. The French star now has the chance to win his second World Cup this year with France.

We’ve looked into Mbappe’s World Cup stats as things stand and picked out seven records which we believe he will smash throughout his career.

Most goals

Miroslav Klose holds the record for the most goals ever scored at the World Cup with 16 goals in 24 appearances for Germany. That means he averaged 0.66 goals for his country at the World Cup.

Having played just 12 matches so far, Mbappe has already scored nine World Cup goals giving him a ratio of 0.75 goals per game. If he was to maintain the same ratio he would go on to score 18 goals in the 24 appearances it took Klose to break the record.

Given that Mbappe is only 23 years old right now, there is every chance that he features in another three World Cup tournaments for France after this year.

Just Fontaine currently holds the record for the most World Cup goals scored by a French player with 13 strikes to his name. Amazingly so, it only took him six matches to score all 13 in 1958.

Mbappe might take a few more games to reach his tally but he is currently only four goals away from levelling the record that has stood for over 60 years.

Scoring in multiple finals

Mbappe is already in a great position to break this record given that he scored in France’s 4-2 win over Croatia in the 2018 World Cup final.

Throughout the history of the World Cup, only four players have scored in more than one final and only one player has ever scored in consecutive World Cup finals.

Brazil’s Vava is the only player to have ever scored in consecutive World Cup finals with goals in the 1958 and 1962 finals. The only other players to have scored in multiple finals have been Pele, Paul Breitner and Zinedine Zidane.
