NCFC Signs Veteran Defender Daniel Navarro

North Carolina FC Travel to Face Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC

CARY, N.C. – North Carolina FC have signed 2022 USL League One First Team defender Daniel Navarro for the 2023 season. The 31-year-old Navarro was a finalist for league Defender of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year as he helped lead Chattanooga Red Wolves SC to the League One Final in 2022.


Navarro finished his third season with Chattanooga in 2022 and had 54 clearances, 14 blocks, 27 interceptions, won 34 of 45 tackles and won 50 of 99 duels. He posted an 87.3% passing accuracy, including 59.4% on long passes. He also scored a goal on the year.

“Daniel will be a great addition to our club and immediately provide experience and leadership to our team. He has proven himself to be one of the best defenders in our league and I’m excited to have him now defending for North Carolina FC.,” said head coach John Bradford.

Chattanooga navigated a mid-season coaching change to fight their way to the USL One championship match, upsetting top-seed Richmond in the semifinals with their second straight post-season clean sheet, before falling to South Georgia Tormenta FC. Navarro captained a back line that conceded 41 goals, five away from the fewest in the league. Red Wolves led the league in total passes and tied for second in passing accuracy.

The signing of Navarro brings the NCFC roster to 16 players on full-time, professional contracts. He becomes the seventh defender on the roster, joining Gustavo Fernandes, Max Flick, Nelson Flores, Britton Fischer, Christian Lue Young and Jordan Skelton.
