SAN DIEGO, Calif. – San Diego Wave Fútbol Club enters December with a current roster of 19 players ahead of its second NWSL season. San Diego Wave FC’s most recent additions are two former Chicago Red Star talents, forward Rachel Hill and midfielder Danielle Colaprico. The club also recently re-signed forward Makenzy Doniak and defender Kaleigh Riehl to its 2023 roster.


These new additions join a core group of returners with big ambitions ahead of the 2023 season. In its inaugural 2022 season, San Diego broke the record for both the NWSL Playoff attendance record and the NWSL regular-season record, with 26,215 and 32,000 fans. Wave FC also made history in 2022 as the first expansion team to reach the playoffs.

Goalkeepers: Kailen Sheridan, Carly Telford

Forwards: Amirah Ali, Makenzy Doniak, Rachel Hill, Sofia Jakobsson, Alex Morgan, Jaedyn Shaw

Midfielders: Belle Briede, Danielle Colaprico, Taylor Kornieck, Kristen McNabb, Kelsey Turnbow, Emily Van Egmond

Defenders: Abby Dahlkemper, Mia Gyau, Naomi Girma, Kaleigh Riehl, Christen Westphal

On Wave FC’s inaugural season and the club’s recent signings:

“Obviously, in learning and reflecting on last season, it was an incredible season for us, albeit we were disappointed not to make the Championship Final. I thought we competed really well, and it’s the same as any other club that I’ve been involved in, you have to evolve. You have to make sure that you strengthen. You have to make sure that your squad is ready to compete in the next season, so we’ve had some changes to our roster. We’ve let some people go, and that’s the hardest part of my job is making those decisions and letting those people go because you make relationships with those people, but we’ve given them as much support as we can and given them an exit plan and tried to help them as much as possible. And now we’re looking at who we can bring in. Really pleased with the signing of Rachel Hill and really pleased with the signing of Danny Colaprico. I think they really add a lot of experience to our squad. We’ve got a young squad. Some of our players are still quite inexperienced in the NWSL, so we’re really pleased with them, and we’re still in the market…
