ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando City SC has signed defender Kyle Smith to a new contract guaranteed through 2023, with a Club option in 2024, it was announced today.

“We’re so happy to get Kyle signed to a new deal, which allows us to not only keep him as part of the 2023 roster, but now involves an additional option year in 2024,” said EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. “Throughout his time in Orlando he’s answered every call and played every role that we’ve asked him to. His versatility and dependability are vital to our plans as we look to win more trophies in 2023.”

In his first four seasons in Orlando, Smith has made 68 starts in 109 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists. He appeared in all of City’s matches in its U.S. Open Cup Championship run and played a pivotal role in bringing the Club’s first trophy in the MLS era to the City Beautiful. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native joined the Lions ahead of their 2019 season when he was signed from Louisville City of the USL Championship.

In 2022, the 30-year-old defender appeared in 29 games across all competitions including 14 starts. Smith found the back of the net twice, both of which came after coming off the bench late in the second half. Smith scored all of his 2022 goals in second-half stoppage time, first against Toronto FC and then against Seattle Sounders FC, both serving as game-winners for the Lions.
