Inter Milan ‘have opened talks to extend Romelu Lukaku’s loan move for another season – with Chelsea NOT interested in their £97.5m flop returning’ – just days after he missed FOUR huge chances as Belgium crashed out of the World Cup

Inter Milan are trying to sign Romelu Lukaku on loan for another season after Chelsea made it clear they do not want him back, according to reports in Italy.

The Belgian striker joined the Blues from Inter for £97.5million in August 2021 – the seventh-biggest transfer of all time – but endured a disappointing first season and was farmed out to the Italian giants in June.

And as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, Graham Potter‘s side are not interested in Lukaku returning to Stamford Bridge – with Inter now attempting to extend his loan for a further campaign.

The 29-year-old, for his part, is believed to be keen to stay at the San Siro and is not considering moving to any other club.

The news comes just days after a half-fit Lukaku missed four huge chances as Belgium crashed out of the Qatar World Cup at the group stages.

After edging past Canada 1-0 and losing 2-0 against Morocco, Belgium needed results to go their way but could only draw 0-0 against Croatia on Thursday.

The 104-cap international – his country’s all-time record goalscorer – replaced Dries Mertens at half-time but squandered four presentable opportunities when a goal would have sent them through to the last 16 at the expense of their opponents.

Lukaku has only played five matches in all competitions for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring twice, due to persistent ankle and hamstring injury problems.

With club chiefs ‘shocked and alarmed’ at his sudden physical decline, the forward will return to Inter training in the next couple of days as he desperately tries to get fully fit and the club tries to make up an 11-point deficit to Serie A leaders Napoli.
