Fischer, Barnett and Sears Named USC All-North Region – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s soccer players Talani Barnett, Kayla Fischer and Emma Sears have all been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region team for the 2022 season. Barnett and Fischer earn first team distinction and Sears takes home second team honors.

For Fischer, this is her third time earning All-North Region honors. She was a first team honoree during the 2021 spring season and a second team honoree last year. Fischer is just the fourth Buckeye to earn All-Region honors three times and just the fifth to earn first team accolades multiple times. The Kent, Ohio native scored a career-high eight goals this season and finished with 19 points which also matched a career-high. Down the stretch of the season, she scored a goal in five consecutive matches, including finishing that stretch with a hat trick at Illinois. Fischer ends her career eighth in program history with 28 career goals, sixth with 19 assists and second with 304 career shot attempts.

Barnett earns her first All-Region honors. She was the anchor of the Buckeye back line, playing in all but 62 minutes this season. She had one assist to her credit but played a key role in nine team shutouts this year which was tied for the most since 2018. Barnett played in 89 career games and over 6,400 minutes for the Buckeyes over the last five seasons. She also earned first team All-Big Ten honors this fall.

Sears had a career year. She led the team in goals with nine, assists with five and points with 23. All three totals were career highs. The Dublin, Ohio native scored a pair of goals in the wins over Dayton and Maryland and then highlighted her season with the game-winner in the 107th minute of the NCAA opening round win over Bucknell. The Buckeyes had a seven-match unbeaten streak in the middle of the season and Sears played a large role during that stretch with 11 points. She also earned her second All-Big Ten honor this season.

Ohio State was 11-6-3 this season and finished fourth during Big Ten play at 5-3-2. The Buckeyes earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and made their 16th appearance in the tournament. They beat Bucknell at home in the opening round to advance to the second round for the eighth time in program history.
