Cooper, Groff Earn Team of the Week Accolades

DURHAM – A pair of Duke women’s soccer standouts – Michelle Cooper and Katie Groff – have been tabbed to the College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week, after helping lead Duke into the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals over the weekend.

The Blue Devils registered a 1-0 win over 16th-ranked Texas on Friday, before notching a 2-1 victory over 13th-ranked South Carolina on Sunday to move on to the quarterfinals for the ninth time out of the last 12 years under head coach Robbie Church.

Cooper was named to both the College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week, after registering her school-record sixth brace of the season on Sunday against South Carolina.  She collected Duke’s first goal in the 12th minute and then added the eventual game-winner in the 84th minute to put the Blue Devils ahead 2-0.  On Friday against Texas, Cooper totaled four shots and played the full 90 minutes.  Cooper, who hails from Clarkston, Mich., now owns a school-record 45 points to go along with 17 goals and 11 assists on the year.  She is turning in one of the best individual seasons in Duke history.

A product of Raleigh, N.C., Groff earned College Soccer News Team of the Week and was honorable mention for TopDrawerSoccer accolades as well.  Groff came up huge in the final two minutes of the second-round matchup with Texas as she headed in a Mackenzie Pluck corner kick to push Duke past the Longhorns, 1-0, late in the match.  With the goal, Groff now owns four career tallies and three game-winners.  Groff helped lead a Duke defense to only one goal allowed over two matches over the weekend.

Second-seeded Duke will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for a NCAA Quarterfinal match on Friday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. (ET) at top-seeded Alabama.  The contest will be aired live on ESPN+.
