COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Maryland men’s soccer team will host NEC champion Farleigh Dickinson on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff from Ludwig Field is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

THIS WEEK’S STORYLINES

  • Maryland is making its 22nd straight appearance in the NCAA Tournaement, the second longest active streak in the nation, and 40th apperance in the NCAA Tournament overall. With a win, the Terps would travel to face 14th-seeded Cornell in the second round on Sunday.
  • The Terrapins boasts an 10-3-5 record and won the Big Ten regular season title after going unbeaten in conference play (4-0-4). The Terps were eliminated by Indiana in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
  • Maryland has secured its 28th consecutive fall season with 10+ wins. Maryland’s last fall season without 10+ wins was Sasho Cirovski‘s first year as head coach in 1993.
  • The Terrapins captured the Big Ten Regular Season Championship on a dramatic final day of conference play. Stefan Copetti’s 87th minute header gave the Terps a 1-1 draw against Indiana and lifted them to the title.
  • The Terps finished the conference season unbeaten for the first time since 2016, which was also their last Big Ten Regular Season title. They now have won six total Big Ten trophies since entering the league in 2014.
  • Maryland has won eight total conference tournament championships in its history, including on five consecutive occasions between 2012-16. The Terps have not reached the Big Ten Tournament final since winning the title in 2016.
  • The Terps are 47-20-7 under Sasho Cirovski in the NCAA Tournament. The Terrapins have won three national titles since 2000, tied with Stanford and Indiana for the most in the nation in that span.
  • Maryland has one player remaining from its 2018 National Championship side: Nick Richardson (redshirt year). The Terps have 16 players that have played in NCAA Tournament matches in their career, 15 at the Division I level and German Giammattei at the Division III level. Giammattei is the only player on Maryland’s roster to play in a match beyond the second round at any level.
