EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State women’s soccer sophomore forward Jordyn Wickes earned a place on both the TopDrawerSoccer and College Soccer News National Team of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Lauren Kozal was named to the NCAA Soccer Best XI, each organization announced Tuesday.
Wickes makes her second appearance on the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week in the 2022 campaign, and becomes Michigan State’s second multi-week recipient award of the year, joining senior forward Lauren DeBeau. Wickes was responsible for both Spartan goals in their quarterfinal win over the eighth-seeded Minnesota Golden Gophers. Trailing 1-0 at the halftime break, the Brunswick, Ohio, native tallied a right-footed score just ouside the mouth of the goal in the 55th minute. Later on in the 67th minute, Wickes took a couple of dribbles to the right and launched a banger into the back of the net to seal the victory for MSU.
In addition to her recognition from TopDrawerSoccer, Wickes became Michigan State’s third player to earn a spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, joining graduate defender Ruby Diodati (Oct. 11) and DeBeau (Oct. 25). Wickes’ performance against Minnesota in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament saw the sophomore book her first collegiate multi-goal outing. Wickes ranks second on the MSU roster in goals scored with seven, also placing second at MSU with four game-winning goals.
Kozal, meanwhile, secured recognition as one of the premier goalkeepers in Division I soccer, earning a spot on NCAA.com’s Best XI. The Spartan netminder from Ada, Michigan, continues hauling in historic accolades during the 2022 season, as the senior was previously named the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year for the second-straight time, earning her most recent accolade by unanimous vote. Kozal boasts the best save percentage in the league and 10th-best nationally, registering a 0.869 success rate between the pipes. She also ranks first in the B1G with 10 total shutouts, the ninth-best mark in Division I soccer.
