Zlatan Ibrahimovic has directed a fresh attack at French football, claiming it has descended into near irrelevance since he left Paris Saint-Germain.
Ibrahimovic enjoyed a superb spell at PSG, scoring 156 goals in just 180 matches before leaving to join Manchester United in 2016.
He has since enjoyed successful spells at LA Galaxy and AC Milan, while PSG now boast a front three of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
However, despite all that star power, Ibrahimovic appears to have no intention of relinquishing his super-confident image just yet.
“Since I left France, everything is going down,” he told Canal+. “You have nothing to talk about anymore.
“France needs me. I don’t need France. Even if you have Mbappe, Neymar and Messi, it doesn’t help you. Why? Because you don’t have God.”
Ibrahimovic, now 41 years old, helped Milan to its first Serie A title in 11 years last season, although he has since undergone knee surgery that will keep him out until 2023.
He, though, says he has no desire to retire, adding: “When I come back, I will be heard, you can count on it.
“I will do it with violence. I’m not going to retire, I’m coming back and I won’t give up. If I see a player stronger than me, I’ll stop. But I haven’t seen him yet.”
