“It’s a massively exciting opportunity for us as a club. Our first-ever season to be in the playoffs is a huge achievement for the club, the players and the staff. It’s exciting and something different for me. We know we are up against a very good team with very good attacking threats. It is also a team we know we can do well against, so it’s an exciting opportunity for us, we know it is a huge game, but one we are really looking forward to.”

Casey Stoney, San Diego Wave FC Head Coach

The last time the two teams met was on July 30, at Soldier Field, ending in a 1-0 victory for the San Diego side. 17-year-old Jaedyn Shaw made her professional debut and tallied her first professional goal in the 28th minute which sent San Diego home with three points. Notably, Wave FC’s goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan preserved the win for the team with a massive penalty kick save attempted by Mallory Pugh in the 81st minute.

Seven Wave FC players are no stranger to the NWSL playoffs including: Abby Dahlkemper, Makenzy Doniak, Katie Johnson, Kristen McNabb, Alex Morgan, Kailen Sheridan, and Jodie Taylor. The winner of this Sunday’s contest looks to book their visit to the #2 Portland Thorns for a semi-final round of the NWSL Playoffs on Oct. 23, 7 p.m. PT at Providence Park.
