Demon Deacons Begin Two Game Road Swing at No. 2 North Carolina


WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – In a showdown of two Big Four programs, the Wake Forest women’s soccer team will travel to face second-ranked North Carolina Friday night at Dorrance Field.
 
Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m., and the match will be broadcasted on ACC Network Extra.
 
The Matchup

  • Following a 2-0 victory over Miami, Wake Forest will hit the road to face No. 2 North Carolina on Friday.
  • The Demon Deacons had their best defensive performance of the season Sunday as they held Miami to zero shot attempts.
  • Wake Forest and North Carolina are two of only five teams in the ACC that have yet to allow double-digit goals this season.

    • Wake Forest has only conceded eight goals, while the Tar Heels have conceded nine.
    • The Demon Deacons are allowing only 0.57 goals per game thus far, which ranks 16th nationally.

  • North Carolina earned victories over Pitt and NC State last week to improve to 4-2 in the conference.

Last Time Out

  • Wake Forest held ACC foe Miami to zero shot attempts en route to a 2-0 victory over the Hurricanes Sunday evening at Spry Stadium.
  • Sunday marked the first time Wake Forest held an opponent to zero shots this season. Meanwhile, offensively, the Demon Deacons recorded a season-high 28 shot attempts.
  • Additionally, the Deacs held Miami to only one corner kick, which is the fewest the Hurricanes have attempted in a match this season.
  • Wake Forest struck first in the 32nd minute when Taryn Chance sprinted down the left side of the pitch and sent a cross into the box for Liv Stowell. Stowell then blasted a shot from three yards out into the net for her fifth goal of the season.
  • The Deacs doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute when Giovanna DeMarco guided a cross from Kristin Johnson toward freshman Alex Wood. Wood then beat a Miami defender to the ball and fired a shot past the outreached arm of the Miami goalkeeper for her fifth goal of the season to extend the Demon Deacons’ lead.
  • Wake Forest continued its stellar defensive performance over the ensuing 18 minutes and came away with the 2-0 victory.
  • Sunday’s win marked Wake Forest’s third victory over an opponent ranked in the top-50 of the NCAA RPI rankings.
