Ex-Liverpool man Murphy tells ‘fractious’ Klopp that sarcastic Hamann jibe was ‘uncalled for’

Liverpool duo Didi Hamann and Danny Murphy celebrate a goal

Danny Murphy has criticised Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for his sarcastic comments towards Didi Hamann during a press conference.

The Reds have been in the Premier League this season with their 3-2 loss against Arsenal meaning they now have just ten points from their first eight matches.

There has been a little pressure on Klopp to turn around their fortunes as he looks to take respite in the Champions League when they face Rangers tonight.

But there were signs of a tetchy Liverpool boss at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday as he had a go at a journalist for using comments from Hamann to ask him a question.

“Dietmar is a friend of mine and he’s a fantastic guy, and he’s very honest, but I find it strange, I don’t know why he said ‘five years ago’ – Liverpool were still playing that football last season. ‘Up until this season’, he should have said.

“But what he said wasn’t particularly wrong, but Klopp is edgy, he’s fractious. He’s not happy with what he’s seeing, he wants to do better and he’s getting in front of the press and being agitated and saying things he’ll probably look back on and think, ‘Why did I respond to that?’

“I don’t think he’d be embarrassed by it, but he should have taken it better.

“Dietmar is entitled to…
