Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has criticised a journalist for using the words of Didi Hamann during his questioning on Tuesday.
The Reds have got off to a poor start to the new Premier League season with just two wins from their opening eight matches.
Liverpool dropped 22 points in the whole if the 2021/22 campaign but in stark contrast they have already missed out on 14 points this term.
Their latest poor result came at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday with a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal seeing them move down the table to tenth.
The Champions League has offered them a bit of respite in recent weeks with Liverpool bouncing back from a 4-1 defeat to Napoli with back-to-back wins over Ajax and Rangers.
Former Liverpool midfielder Hamann described the Reds as “pedestrian” and “flat” after watching their performance against the Gunners.
Hamann said on talkSPORT: “I think that as a big team you’re always in transition but they’ve been at the top of their capacities for the last three or four years.
“What they achieved and what they did last year was second to none. I don’t think that will be achieved again, to be within seven days of winning all four trophies and I think that psychologically it was always going to be tough this season.
“If you look yesterday, Arsenal, in the second half, were everything that Liverpool were four or five years ago. They were breath-taking going forward. Every time that they did go forward you felt that something was going to happen.
“This Liverpool team looks tired, they look pedestrian and they just look flat. I’m not sure where the spark is going to come from because they’ve won games in the past, obviously they beat Rangers a couple of days ago but they’re obviously far superior to Rangers.
“I trust that they’ll know where the spark is going to come from but whether it’s the end of an era? I wouldn’t write them off, but my imagination doesn’t let me see where the spark is going to come from in the next few weeks.”
And Klopp was not happy when a journalist said he’d heard the phrase this week that the Reds “needed a spark” with the Liverpool boss making a sarcastic comment about Hamann.
Klopp asked: “Who said that? Oh great, he (Hamann) is a fantastic source. Well respected everywhere. . .”
When the journalist reminded Klopp that Hamann is a former Liverpool midfielder, the German added: “That does not give you the right to say what you want, especially when you have no idea.
