Tech earns 2-0 victory at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Two first-half goals against ETSU propelled Virginia Tech to its first road triumph of the season on Tuesday night.

The Hokies jumped out to an early lead when Declan Quill was brought down in the box in the 6th minute, which led to Danny Flores stepping up to the penalty spot. For the fourth time this season, Flores was able to convert from the spot.

As the half progressed, the Hokies needed fifth-year goalkeeper Connor Jordan-Hyde to step up in his first career start. Jordan-Hyde did well to suppress any nerves in the 25th minute when he was called upon to make two diving saves – including one from point-blank range – to keep the Bucs scoreless.

Virginia Tech doubled its lead in the 39th minute when Nick Blacklock received a pass from Mayola Kinyua at the top of the box and the senior slotted home a low shot into the left corner of the goal.

In the final 45 minutes, the Hokies received more pressure from ETSU, but never allowed a breakthrough.

Jordan-Hyde recorded three of his six saves in the second half, which allowed Tech to record its third clean sheet of the season.
