Langford, BC – – Veteran midfielder and team captain Jamar Dixon has announced his retirement after two years with Pacific FC.

Dixon, 33, is a leader in soccer in Canada, helping to grow the sport with his play on the pitch and as a role model and spokesperson off of it.

“Thank you to Pacific FC for supporting me and allowing me to be myself during my time here. I have an immense amount of respect for the players, coaching staff, front office management, and the ownership group at Pacific FC, said Dixon.

“I’m grateful to everyone who helped me along this journey, most importantly my parents, my wife, my family, and my close friends. Without you guys my dreams and goals wouldn’t be possible.”

Dixon’s career came full circle when the Ottawa-born midfielder, who got his start with the Victoria Highlanders in 2009, returned to the Island to join Pacific FC in 2020. In between stints in Victoria, Dixon played in Finland and Sweden, and later with his hometown Ottawa Fury. The skill and expansive play of 5-foot-10 Dixon garnered him a call up to the Canadian national team. He earned three caps for his country.

Dixon has a long history with Pacific FC head coach James Merriman, from their shared playing days with Highlanders FC to working together at Pacific as coach and player.

“Jamar Dixon has been an exceptional captain for our club,” said James Merriman, Head Coach, Pacific FC. “He’s been an integral part of our continued growth and holds our values. I’ve been able to watch every step of his professional career and play a small part in his progression. He’s grown on and off the pitch as a person and now as a family man.”

Dixon is tied for third in all-time career appearances for Pacific with 62 overall. He scored one goal for the club in that time.

Dixon led Pacific as team captain in 55 matches. The team won 60 per cent of its matches with him at the helm. In addition to his remarkable abilities on the pitch, Dixon is noted for his leadership in league initiatives, such as recognizing Black History Month and the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.

“A special thank you to the Pacific fans for their incredible support,” said Dixon “You’ll be missed.”
