Klopp: Liverpool Were Playing a Different Sport Compared to Napoli Game

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his side’s performance in Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Ajax was like a different sport compared to last week’s horror 4-1 defeat in Napoli.

The Reds clinched their first three points of their UEFA Champions League campaign after Joel Matip’s 89th minute header crept over the line.

Earlier, Mohamed Salah had put Liverpool ahead in the 17th minute at Anfield, with Mohammed Kudus rocketing in a fine equalizer in the 27th minute.

Liverpool were again unconvincing, in line with their slow start in the Premier League where they have nine points from six games, but vastly improved on last week’s showing at Napoli.

“I think if you put the two games, Napoli and tonight, next to each other you don’t recognise probably that it’s the same sport,” Klopp told reporters.

“Wholly different, the start was different, the middle was different, finish was different. The football we played, the way we defended, everything was different.

“Much higher intensity, much more aggression, braver, more ready. How I said, everything was better. It was a first step, nothing else, not more, but everything was good.”

Klopp insisted his side wouldn’t get carried away with the victory, but hailed his players’ character.

“It is the most important thing,” Klopp said about character.

“Nobody gets carried away tonight, its not that the boys sit in the dressing room and cannot get their arms down.

“It’s more relief; we showed us and the outside world we understood, we reacted. The boys really reacted, I liked that a lot.

“It was a super-intense game. But how it is in life, when you have a problem you want to sort it. If you want to sort it, we all hope as human beings that we sort it immediately, done.”
