COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 22 Ohio State got two early goals from Peyton McNamara and graduate keeper Kat Robinson made them stand as the Buckeyes celebrated senior night with a 2-1 victory over Kent State on Sunday.

Ohio State is now 5-1-1 on the year while Kent State drops to 0-5-2. The Buckeyes have concluded non-conference play and will have a week to prepare for the Big Ten opener at Rutgers next Sunday

How it Happened

Peyton McNamara put the Buckeyes in front 2-0 with a pair of early goals. She scored her first in the 10th minute as she received a Kent State goal kick around midfield and dribbled into the box before slipping a left-footed shot past the KSU keeper.

In the 18th minute, McNamara corralled a deflection in the box and put a right-footed shot into the back of the net for her second goal of the night. But the two-goal lead was short-lived as Kent State’s Delaney Ranallo found the ball on her foot in front of the net off a free kick and she tapped it in, cutting the lead in half.

While each team had chances in the second half, those early goals wound up being the only tallies of the night. The Buckeyes had their chances McNamara, Emma Sears, Kayla Fischer and Maddy Lowe all had opportunities in the final 30 minutes but wasn’t able to convert. In the end, the Buckeyes got the result and will turn their focus to Big Ten play the rest of the way.
