Nittany Lions Drop 2-1 Battle to Princeton

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- Penn State dropped a tough 2-1 battle to defending Ivy League Champions, Princeton. The Nittany Lions are now 2-2-1.
 
FIRST HALF
A good scoring opportunity came for Tyger Evans 20 minutes into the game. Evans headed the ball off a corner kick and the Princeton goalkeeper made a diving save.
 
The Tigers struck first with three minutes left in the half starting from a free kick just outside the box. The ball was knocked around and bounced off a Penn State player into the net.
 
The roles were reversed on Penn State corner kick just two minutes later. Evans on the kick, sent the ball to Alex Stevenson who headed it towards the goal only to be headed into the goal by a Tigers defender. 
 
The score was tied at 1-1 after 45 minutes of play.
 
SECOND HALF
The Tigers struck again in the 69th minute of the game making the score 2-1. Princeton’s Daniel Diaz Bonilla launched the ball off the crossbar that bounced to Ryan Clare in the box. Clare sent it into the corner of the net after a bang-bang play.

Kris Shakes saved the Nittany Lions on a free kick inside the box. Shakes charged at the Tiger on the kick and blocked the ball from getting to his line of defense manning the goal.

Penn State had several opportunities on offense including a Peter Mangione bicycle kick goal that was later revoked at offside. The Nittany Lions could not add anymore to the board leaving the score at 2-1.

 

OF NOTE

The Nittany Lions had 10 corner kick opportunities.

Shakes made five crucial saves between the pipes.

Penn State had 10 shots.
