Chicago Red Stars Draw 2-2 With Ol Reign

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Chicago Red Stars drew even 2-2 with OL Reign tonight in Seattle. In an exciting back and forth match, Chicago’s Ella Stevens and Danielle Colaprico found the back of the net for the Red Stars. Walking away with one point each, both the Red Stars and Reign remain in sixth and fifth respectfully in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) standings.


KEY MOMENTS:

17′ OL Reign’s Huitema gets a shot from inside the Red Stars’ box that deflects off of a Red Stars defender. Huitema gets her own rebound and scores for OL Reign

24′ Megan Rapinoe rips a shot from the left side of Chicago’s box, but Alyssa Naeher gets a hand on it and is able to swipe it out of bounds to clear the danger

28′ Ella Stevens finds Rachel Hill on a run on the right side of the pitch. Hill crosses the ball to Nagasato who takes a shot that goes over the cross bar

45+1′ Rachel Hill makes a run into OL Reign’s box, takes a shot but it rebounds to the defense who isn’t able to coral the ball before Ella Stevens can get a shot on goal that finds the back of the net

49′ Stevens applies pressure on OL Reign’s back line, forces a mistake that opens up a shot for Mallory Pugh, but the shot goes over the cross bar

66′ Yuki Nagasato attempts a cross that ricochet’s off of the hand of an OL Reign defender and a penalty is called. Danielle Colaprico converts the attempt and puts Chicago ahead 2-1

79′ Rose Lavelle takes a shot from the edge of Chicago’s box and gets it past Naeher to tie the match 2-2

90+3 Rapinoe gets a wide-open shot in front of Naeher, but Naeher is able to stop the shot with a big save

90+4 Lavelle follows with a clear shot of her own but Naeher is able to save the shot

GAME NOTES:

Naeher’s seven saves tonight put her ahead of Nicole Barnhart for second on the NWSL all-time regular-season saves list.

Chicago weathered a storm of shots from OL Reign tonight (21) only allowing two goals and still converting two goals of their own, controlling possession (57%) and out passing the Reign in the final third (133 to 128)

Rachel Hill’s appearance tonight puts her one game closer to making her 100th appearance in the NWSL. Hill made her presence felt all game ranking in the top five of Red Stars players in shots (3), chances created (2) and completed passes (36).
