Manchester City‘s Bernardo Silva will stay at the club past the transfer window, according to club official Manuel Estiarte.

Estiarte is part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff and is the head of player support and protocol at the Citizens and has become the latest person at the club to rule out a transfer of the Portuguese international.

Silva has been continuously linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium, with LaLiga side Barcelona one of the teams interested in capturing his signature.

However, Esiarte has joined Guardiola and co by ruling out a move and that he will be in action for the club against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League fixture tonight.

He told Spanish radio station RAC1: ‘Bernardo plays today and stays at City.’

The 28-year-old has started the current Premier League season in fine form, scoring two goals and assisting one in his four appearances.

Last season, Silva was a regular in the City team, making 50 appearances in all competitions in which he managed 13 goals and seven assists.

Despite financial constraints, Barcelona have still been very active in the transfer window, having signed Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, AC Milan’s Frank Kessie, Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Leeds’ Raphinia.

Media in Catalonia still insist that Barcelona still have a chance of signing the 70-capped Portuguese star.
