Antony deal ‘thwarts’ Mendes’ €140m Ronaldo swap with Napoli as Man Utd relationship ‘deteriorates’

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen celebrates a goal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes was hoping to broker a deal for the wantaway striker with Napoli, but Manchester United’s move for Anthony has ‘thwarted his plans’.

He’s been seemingly offered to every Champions League club but potential suitors have either been unable to afford his wages or unwilling to sign him.

A report on Sunday claimed a swap deal which would see Ronaldo move to Napoli and Victor Osimhen arrive at Old Trafford had been mooted.

The Serie A side reportedly want €140m for the Nigeria international and at the same time are asking United to cover Ronaldo’s €45m wages in a season-long loan deal.

Mendes is said to have told Napoli that United were ready for such a ‘drain’ on the club’s purse as they are desperate to move Ronaldo on and bring in  some fresh talent.

The super-agent was in contact with United ‘for a long time’ on Monday after Anthony’s arrival has ‘surprised and thwarted his plans’ involving Ronaldo and Osimhen.

The relationship between Mendes and Manchester United is said to have ‘deteriorated in recent hours’ as a result.

Mendes’ last hope of securing Ronaldo’s move is in a simple loan move, which would see United pay 80 per cent of his salary, meaning the Serie A side would pay around €7m for the Portugal international for the rest of the season.

Il Mattino add: ‘In short, now there is only one road left: Osimhen who remains and CR7 who arrives on loan for 10 months. De Laurentiis, dealing with the production of the second series of Vita da Carlo, has direct contacts with Mendes. In any case, Giuntoli watches in silence. But seen…
