Dawgs End In 0-0 Draw With Loyola Marymount

LOS ANGELES — The UW women’s soccer team tied 0-0 with Loyola Marymount Thursday afternoon at Sullivan Field in Los Angeles.  

The Huskies are now 2-0-1 on the season.  

The first half was a defensive battle with neither team registering a goal. The Huskies notched five shots compared to the Lions’ one.  

Summer Yates launched a corner kick that nearly resulted in a Husky goal to begin the second half. Kala McDaniel headed the ball to the feet of Kyla Ferry whose tap-in was blocked by an LMU defender.  

Karlee Stueckle was fouled in the 59th minute, giving the Huskies another chance to get on the board. Claudia Longo came in to take the free kick which was blocked by a wall of LMU defenders.  

Yates’ attempted a free kick in the 67th minute that missed wide right of the goal.  

LMU notched 10 saves in the afternoon, seven of them coming in the second half of play. 

The shot differential for the Huskies and LMU was impressive, with UW outshooting the Lions 20 to 4.  

Washington only allowed one shot on goal through 90 minutes.  

The Huskies’ defense has only allowed nine shots through three games so far this season while limiting opponents to a .333 shot on goal percentage.

The Dawgs will take on Long Beach State on Sunday (Aug. 28) at 1 p.m. in Long Beach before returning home to Husky Soccer Stadium to host Texas Tech Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7…
