Lampard explains Gordon ‘decision’ as Everton ask Chelsea for one of two stars in £60m deal

Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon gets a hug

Frank Lampard insists that Everton want a quick resolution to Chelsea’s transfer interest in Anthony Gordon or he will remain their player.

Chelsea have already had a £45m bid rejected for the Toffees youngster but reports yesterday insisted that the Blues were prepared to go as high as £60m to land the England under-21 international.

“60 million quid for Anthony Gordon?! Send him in a cab quick before somebody actually wakes up and smells the coffee. 60 million quid?!”

A first-half goal from Demarai Gray secured Everton’s safe passage through to the third round of the Carabao Cup against League One side Fleetwood Town.

And Lampard was pleaased with the attitude and intensity from his side, he added: “I was really pleased with the attitude but the intensity and quality at times wasn’t as good as it should have been and we should have controlled the game better.

“It was a good indicator of where we are at the moment…
