Tottenham the ‘favourite destination’ for Forest target; player swap possible for €18m star

Tottenham target Malinovskyi

Tottenham Hotspur would reportedly be Ruslan Malinovskyi’s ‘favourite destination’ as they battle Nottingham Forest for the Atalanta player’s signature.

Newly-promoted Forest have done more business than anyone else in the Premier League this summer, as they have signed 16 new players.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Jesse Lingard, Emmanuel Dennis and Dean Henderson are among their marquee signings.

On paper, Tottenham have done great business. They have spent over £100m to bring in the likes of Yves Bissouma, Richarlison and Djed Spence.

They are now battling Forest for Malinovskyi. The Atalanta midfielder is understood to be valued at €18m this summer.

Speaking earlier this week, Spurs boss Antonio Conte hinted that he would be open to signing more players this summer:

“We’re okay. But if someone goes away, for sure another player has to come,” admitted Conte.

“Especially if some players want to go to play regularly. It’s difficult to keep them here.

“But at the same time, it has to be very clear that if a player wants to go play, I have to replace this player. This is very important. We need to have a squad capable to face a lot of games until November. This is very important for me.”

On signing Destiny Udogie, Conte added: “He’s a player for the future. I think he is a good prospect for Tottenham because we are talking about a young player.

“For sure this player needs to develop like Spence and in my opinion a good investment for the club. Now he continues to play in this season with Udinese and in this way he has the possibility to play regularly.

“When you are young you need to play to improve your experience. For sure we are talking about a good prospect, but we are talking about a player for the future not for the present. He has to develop and to grow with a group of players with more experience.”

Malinovskyi has been a standout player for Atalanta in Serie A in recent seasons and the 29-year-old has also been key for Ukraine.

Corriere Bergamo (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Forest had a bid rejected for the midfielder earlier this month.

The player favours a move to Spurs and the London club are said to be ‘at the window’ for him.

It is noted that Tottenham have an ‘excellent’ relationship with Atalanta and they could send Sergio Reguilon to Serie A as part of the deal.
