KANSAS CITY – The Kansas City Current finished the month of July with three wins and a draw, just part of the current club-best eight game unbeaten streak. Recognizing the team’s performance, four players were voted by the NWSL Media Association to the July Best XI of the Month, presented by Mastercard: defenders Kristen Edmonds and Hailie Mace, midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta and goalkeeper Adrianna ‘AD’ Franch.

Kristen Edmonds, Defender – This is the first Team of the Month selection for Edmonds, but she has been one of Kansas City’s most important and versatile players since joining the team in February 2021. She started all three of the Current’s July wins, including two shutout victories over the Washington Spirit and OL Reign. Her 32 tackles this season lead the team, including nine collected in July.

Hailie Mace, Defender – Also earning her first spot on the Team of the Month, Mace pulled double-duty in July for Kansas City. She was an integral part of the Current defense that held opposing teams to only three goals in four July games. Offensively, Mace scored the winning goal against Houston July 1, then provided an assist in a 2-2 draw against Orlando July 31.

Lo’eau LaBonta, Midfielder – A veteran of the NWSL, LaBonta earned her spot on the Team of the Month with stellar play and leadership that saw her side go undefeated through July. She tallied two goals, including the first goal over Houston July 1 and the game-winning goal against OL Reign and also provided the game-tying assist against the Orlando Pride as she lofted a perfectly weighted ball over the defense to her teammate Cece Kizer.

AD Franch – Franch was named the NWSL Player of the Week after recording three saves against the Washington Spirit, including a penalty save in stoppage time that preserved the Current’s win and her second clean sheet of the month. In July Franch backstopped the Current defense to three wins and a draw, with 14 saves across the month. She earned the Save of the Week in Weeks 10 and 11 and is nominated for Week 12.

The Current look to continue the momentum into August, beginning with a road trip to San Diego this Sunday, Aug. 7. The next home match is Aug. 19 against Angel City, as the club looks to break the single-game attendance record with over 10,000 fans at Children’s Mercy Park. Tickets and information about the match can be found at KansasCityCurrent.com.
