Ex-Liverpool player claims he got his ‘life back’ after leaving Klopp’s schedule behind

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Adam Lallana give each other a hug

Brighton attacking midfielder Adam Lallana says he has “got a little bit more of a life back” since leaving Liverpool two seasons ago.

The former England international left Liverpool in the summer of 2020 with fellow Premier League side Brighton snapping him up on a free transfer.

Lallana suffered badly with injuries throughout his time at Anfield, playing 125 matches in his first three seasons before only featuring 53 times in his final three campaigns on Merseyside.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has always spoken highly of Lallana and the German insisted last year that the former Southampton star is “one of the best players” he’s coached.

Klopp said of Lallana: “Not only at the start, until the end. I miss Adam still to be honest. Adam set the standard from the first to the last day pretty much and it was really impressive.

“What I loved about him, a football player with technical skills he has and that working mentality is really rare.

“I think we all agree if Adam had been a little bit less injured he could have been on another level. One of the best players I’ve ever worked with, an absolutely incredible person as well so I’m really looking forward to seeing him again.”

Lallana has much love for Klopp too but he has revealed that he doesn’t miss the schedule that the Liverpool boss enforced.

“There’s training [in the] afternoon most days, whereas at Brighton, because we train every morning, we always have the afternoon,” Lallana told YouTube channel Gaz’s Golf.

“At Liverpool, training could be at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, depending on times of games. That’s kind of how Jurgen works.

“I think it’s not as much like that [now], but when he first came in that was his model.

“In the morning you’d be waiting around, you’d drop the kids off, go for breakfast, you couldn’t play golf before you train.”

Asked whether golf played a part in Klopp trying to stagger training times, Lallana added: “There would have been an element of [not wanting players to play golf], because playing for Liverpool, it’s literally your life.

“Coming out of Liverpool, I feel like I’ve got a little bit more of a life back.

“Not that I didn’t enjoy it, I loved it at the time, and I love it at Brighton now for different reasons.”
