– The New York Red Bulls (7-4-5, 26 pts.) defeated Toronto FC (4-8-3, 15 pts.) 2-0 on Saturday, June 18, at Red Bull Arena.
– New York struck in the 2nd minute, as John Tolkin’s corner kick was headed in by Lewis Morgan to the near top corner of the net.
– The home side doubled the advantage in the 56th minute. Tom Barlow made a run in behind the Toronto back line and had a shot saved. The long rebound fell to Luquinhas, who immediately sent the ball over Quentin Westberg and into the net.
– The goal for Morgan was a team-leading eighth across all competitions and seventh in MLS. It marked the 14th of his MLS career.
– Morgan has scored four goals against Toronto FC this season and is the second Red Bulls player since 2013 to score four goals against an opponent in a single season.
– The Scottish winger is now tied for the lead among MLS midfielders in goals scored.
– It also marked New York’s quickest goal of the season, surpassing the previous mark of 14 minutes that was set by Omir Fernandez on April 9 against CF Montreal.
– Tolkin’s assist was his first of the season and first since September 17, 2021, at Inter Miami CF. It was the third of his MLS career.
– The goal for Luquinhas was his sixth across all competitions this season and fifth in MLS.
– He has scored in each of the last two home matches for New York.
– The Brazilian is tied for third among MLS midfielders in goals.
– New York extended its home record to 122-36-45 in MLS since 2010.
– The Red Bulls are 96-20-26 since 2015 when scoring the first goal of the match, including a 5-1-2 record this season.
– New York has compiled a 15-2-2 home record against Toronto FC and has posted a 4-0-1 mark in their last five matches against Toronto.
– The Red Bulls are unbeaten in their last seven home matches against Toronto FC and have not dropped one to them at Red Bull Arena since March 6, 2016.
– Since 2014, the Red Bulls have tallied 411 points at Red Bull Arena, which is the second-most in MLS during that timespan.
– Carlos Coronel earned his 20th career victory with New York and moved into sole possession of fifth place in franchise history, surpassing Bouna Coundoul.
– The clean sheet was his fourth of the season and his 18th career MLS shutout. He has recorded 11 shutouts at home in his career.
