Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will ‘crank up’ the club’s efforts to sign Raheem Sterling from Manchester City if they can seal Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan.

Romelu Lukaku failed to make a significant impact on his return to Stamford Bridge last summer and wants to move back to Inter Milan, with Thomas Tuchel also keen to be rid of the misfiring striker.

Mirror claim Chelsea are set for further talks with Inter chief Beppe Marotta on Sunday in a bid to secure a loan move for the Belgium international.

The Serie A side are said to have offered £6m to take the £97.5m striker on loan, but Chelsea have reportedly told Inter that he will cost them £21m for the season.

Despite that significant difference in valuation, the report claims ‘both clubs feel an agreement can be reached this weekend’.

Boehly, despite his reservations about allowing the 29-year-old to leave, has reportedly been instrumental in negotiations with both Lukaku’s advisers and Inter.

And the new owner will then lead the charge to persuade City to sell Sterling.

Thomas Tuchel is a ‘big fan’ of the 27-year-old, whose contract at the Etihad expires next summer, when he would be allowed to leave for free.

Sterling – who will reportedly cost around £60m – would at that point be able to realise his ambition of playing abroad but it’s said that a move to Chelsea is ‘also an appealing prospect’ for the England international.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Sterling is ‘one of the names on Chelsea list’ and Tuchel’s desire to have him as part of his squad.

The Blues have ‘explored the conditions of the deal’, but Romano adds that there have been no official talks between the two clubs and that any move rests on Lukaku and other potential deals.

Including one for Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, who reportedly has ‘serious ambitions to win the Premier League title and Champions League’ and is ‘ready to join the Chelsea revolution’.

But the report states that he wants ‘assurances from Tuchel that he will be a Chelsea starter and not subject to strict squad rotation’.
