Bayern Munich are “preparing” a £30m bid for Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, with the Reds “holding out for” over £40m, according to reports.

Jurgen Klopp’s side ‘did not entertain’ an offer worth an initial £21m and an extra £4m in add-ons, but the Bundesliga champions are not giving up without a fight.

Mane is out of contract next season and Bayern are clearly looking to sign him on a cut-price deal.

Liverpool’s asking price is believed to be £42.5m, meaning the German’s first offer was less than half that amount if the rumoured Champions League-winning add-on was not fulfilled.

According to the Daily Mail, Bayern will come back with a £30m bid, which the Anfield club is expected to turn down.

Mane has scored 120 goals in 269 games for the Reds and has helped them reach three Champions League finals, winning one.

He is widely expected to leave this summer after six years in Merseyside. Speaking ahead of Senegal’s clash with Benin, Mane said: “60-70 per cent of Senegalese people want me to leave Liverpool? I will do what they want. We will soon see.”

However, the 30-year-old then claimed he was “joking” when pushed on his comments.

Bayern president Herbert Hainer discussed the possible signing of Mane, telling BILD: “If we really want a player, we are able to get him. But he has to suit us.”
