Indy Eleven Win Streak Continues

Indy Braves the Weather, Holds off Hartford to Earn Fourth Straight Win

INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven pushed its home winning streak to four games and its undefeated streak at Carroll Stadium to eight courtesy of a 2-0 victory over New York Red Bulls II at IUPUI Carroll Stadium. A Red Bulls II own goal and forward Jonas Fjeldberg’s second goal in as many games, both in the first half, were more than enough for Indy Eleven (5W-3L-2D, 17 pts., 7th in Eastern Conf.) to return to the win column, the result giving Indy a fifth win from its last six outings.

A frantic start saw quality looks for both teams inside the first quarter-hour, starting with Red Bulls II striker Jordan Adebayo-Smith getting off a shot that forced Eleven goalkeeper Elliot Panicco into his first save just three minutes in. On the other end Indy forward Manuel Arteaga saw a 6th minute effort saved, and while Fjeldberg swept home rebound the finish was nullified by the offside flag. New York midfielder Jeremy Rafanello nearly made his former side pay in the 14th minute by picking off a pass at the top of the area and firing a shot that clanged off the right post and out of harm’s way.

The match settled down as the half hour mark neared, which is when Indiana’s Team took the lead. Captain Neveal Hackshaw’s long throw-in to the six was nodded backwards by O’Vante Mullings, forcing Juan Castillo into another header that found its way past New York netminder Derrek Chan. In the 42nd minute Fjeldberg indeed found paydirt and doubled Indy’s lead on a breakaway chance set up by Noah Powder’s perfect 50-yard through ball from the edge of the defensive third.

The second half saw Panicco pressed into action within the opening minute, and he did well to race to the top of his area and stop a breakaway opportunity before seeing Adebayo-Smith fortunately miss wide on the follow-up attempt. The chances were much more sporadic to follow, but Fjeldberg had a great look at a brace in the 57th minute off…
