French outlet convinced Liverpool can come to Kylian Mbappe party this summer

Liverpool have been namechecked again by the French press as a possible destination for Kylian Mbappe this summer.

It’s a potential transfer that would set the Premier League alight and one that would eclipse the Erling Haaland to Manchester City deal. City have agreed a deal in principle to sign Haaland for £51m. Whether Liverpool will respond with their own mega deals remains shrouded in secrecy, but Mbappe is a player who Jurgen Klopp admires.

According to L’Equipe, Klopp spent “several hours” trying to convince Mbappe to join the club in 2017. And from that meeting he has a “direct line” to the player.

Back in 2020, Mbappe told the BBC: “What Liverpool do in this moment is amazing.

“They’re like a machine, they’ve found a rhythm and are like we play again, we play again. They’ve lost zero games. When you watch you think everything is easy but that’s not easy.”

Klopp, too, has also spoken warmly about Mbappe, who is out of contract next month.

His value on the open market would be around the £200m mark, but he could move on for free.

Madrid saw two offers of over £150m rejected by PSG in the summer transfer window. They remain hopeful of getting the attacker to commit to a new deal.

In fact it was reported this week that Mbappe had agreed a contract in principle to stay at PSG for another two years.

The 23-year-old’s mother though was quick to pour cold water on that talk: “There is no agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain or any other club.”

Now though, L’Equipe suggests Liverpool could revive the interest they had in 2021.

“A third club (Liverpool?) would also have entered the dance,” claim the French outlet, via Sport Witness.

With Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all out of contract in 2023, the report claims Klopp could be looking at world-class replacement.
