Middlesbrough, Blackburn chasing Huddersfield star Harry Toffolo but former club also keen

Harry Toffolo Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town are hopeful they can persuade in-demand left-back Harry Toffolo to sign a new contract at the club, TEAMtalk understands.

The defender has been brilliant for The Terriers this season and has been one of the star players in their surprising run into the Championship play-offs, having just missed out on automatic promotion.

Toffolo started his career at Norwich but failed to make a league appearance for the club, having loan spells at Swindon, Rotherham, Peterborough, Scunthorpe and Doncaster before joining Millwall permanently in 2018.

The move down to London did not exactly go to plan, with Toffolo not playing a single Millwall game. A move to Lincoln City followed, where the full-back established himself as a quality performer. Indeed, he was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Season during the 2018-19 campaign.

Huddersfield came calling for Toffolo in the summer of 2020 and he has gone on to play 91 league games for the Terriers.

The 26-year-old’s current deal is due to expire in the summer. However, Town also have a 12-month option which we understand they have already told the player they plan to exercise.

Huddersfield, though, are keen to tie him down to a fresh deal and reward him for his progress. But there are a number of clubs keen on trying to strike a deal for Toffolo.

It is understood that Blackburn, Middlesbrough, Millwall and his former club Norwich are amongst the teams looking at him closely.

Toffolo offers versatile option to suitors

Harry Toffolo is an attacking left-back who also has the ability to play as a wing-back in a 3-5-2 system.

His record this season certainly appears to back up his forward-thinking qualities. Indeed, Toffolo has scored five times and added seven assists in 44 games in all competitions for Town this season.

And if Huddersfield do decide to cash in, the player is currently valued at £1.8m by transfermarkt.
