Dean Smith comes clean on Norwich transfer plans as boss makes bold prediction after relegation

Norwich City boss Dean Smith is confident his side already has a squad capable of bouncing straight back to the Premier League.

The Canaries suffered a second relegation in three years after losing to Aston Villa last weekend. Having been in or around the relegation zone all season, it was no surprise to see Norwich succumb to the drop recently. However, Smith is confident his side have what it takes to make their return to the second division a short one.

“Do I believe that we have got a squad that is capable of fighting for promotion? Yes,” Smith said.

“There might be some additions to that, and some changes, but not wholesale changes.

“I just feel as a football club, we know the Championship and we know how to get out of it.

“We have got to continue to do what we believe is the right way and the right things to get out of there.”

Smith took charge of Norwich in November following the dismissal of Daniel Farke. A torrid start to the season suffered whilst the German was in charge turned out to be to big a deficit to overturn, as Norwich were relegated with four games still remaining.

But despite a dissapointing campaign, Smith believes the team spirit is still there to bounce straight back up.

“As a football club, we came up together to try and stay in the league, but we haven’t managed to do that.

“Then we have to go down together, but the fight is there to make sure that we can come back up again first time.”

Dean Smith already looking to future

Of those players set to leave, it is likely that Max Aarons will depart with a number of clubs looking at the full-back.

On-loan duo Brandon Williams and Billy Gilmour will return to their respective parent clubs. And Norway midfielder Mathias Normann is also unlikely to to extend his temporary stay from Russian side Rostov.

However, arrivals will come and our exclusive recently suggested a double raid on Smith’s old club Villa is on the cards.
