EPL: Rangnick Hails 'One of the Best Performances' in his Time at Man Utd

Manchester United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick says his side’s display in Monday’s 3-0 win over Brentford was one of their best performances in his time at the club.

Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane clinched the win for sixth-placed United, who realistically are out of top-four contention.

Rangnick’s side had 65-35% possession, with almost double the number of passes (710-360), generating 5-4 shots on target.

United last week confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag for next season, to replace Rangnick who was placed in interim charge after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal in November.

“We enjoyed the game. I think you could also see that the players enjoyed their performance,” Rangnick told reporters.

“When we were in possession of the ball, that was one of the best performances we have showed in the last six months since I arrived.

“Defensively, still a few gaps between the lines, we were not always in shape and in possession, and thats when they had their moments but in general, I think that was a decisive win.

“I think we deserved to win because we had more control of the game and more clear chances to score.”

Rangnick also praised Portuguese midfield Fernandes for his display, having had a mixed campaign.

“Bruno was also showing an improved performance, not only because he scored the goal but also in possession,” he said.

United, who will play Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace away in their final two games, have 58 points from 36 games, trailing fourth-placed Arsenal (63 points) and ahead of eighth-placed Wolverhampton (49 from 34) meaning they are practically assured of a Europa League spot.
