Moyes makes transfer revelation over Brentford star offered to West Ham

West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted that his club were offered the chance to sign Christian Eriksen before he joined Brentford.

The football community was left shocked and saddened when Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a Euro 2020 group stage fixture between Denmark and Finland. The attacking midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest and many believed that despite making a recovery, Eriksen would struggle to play elite football again. However, the 30-year-old has made a spectacular return to the game, and is currently on top form for his new club Brentford.

Eriksen joined the Bees in January, and has already contributed a goal and an assist in four league appearances.

However, it has now been revealed the Danish international came close to joining a different London club earlier this year.

Speaking to the Daily Star, Moyes stated that the Hammers were offered Eriksen, however had some doubts over his health.

He said:  “Yes, he was mentioned to us – and to a few clubs about coming back. Eriksen is a player a lot of people would look at and think, ‘my goodness’.

“But I think everybody was more unsure then. And to be honest there’s the huge Danish connection at Brentford, with the manager and some of their players.

“They maybe had more insight on him than the rest of us – on his health and when he was going to come back. I don’t think he played for a couple of months after he first signed for Brentford. A lot of people wondered how it was going…
