Manchester United loanee who was ‘doing really well’ set to be returned ASAP

Rangers will not look to extend the loan of Amad Diallo and in fact will try and offload the winger at the earliest opportunity, claims a report.

The Scottish champions signed the Manchester United starlet in January on a six-month loan deal. At the time it was seen as a real coup for the Scottish club with a number of other teams interested in the winger.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst claimed the player will “add a lot” to his squad and “provide even more competition”. But things have not quite worked out for Diallo, who was a £19m signing from Atalanta in January 2021.

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Diallo was “one of the most exciting young prospects in the game”. And that is why United agreed a further £18.2m in add-ons after the player signed a contract until June 2025, with the option of an extra year.

But after failing to nail down a starting place at Old Trafford he was loaned to the Ibrox club.

However, he has struggled to make an impact north of the border.

He scored on his debut. But he has started just two games since the 3-3 draw with Ross County in January. His game time has totalled just 226 minutes. And he has not appeared for the club in the league since February.

An now, according to Football Insider, Van Bronckhorst has seen enough of Diallo and will end the loan at the “first opportunity”.

 

The Gers will not look to extend the loan into next season or attempt to negotiate a permanent deal.
