Leeds United are growing increasingly confident Kalvin Phillips will sign a new deal with the club amid reports this week linking the player with a move to arch-rivals Manchester United.

The midfielder is a hugely-popular figure at Elland Road, having been raised in the city and come through their academy. Just over seven years since his debut, Phillips has amassed 227 appearances for Leeds and established himself in the England side. Indeed, with 19 caps to his name, Phillips will be hoping to play at the World Cup later this year.

However, the 26-year-old has endured a tough 2021/22 season on a personal level. Having ruptured his hamstring against Brentford on December 5, Phillips is only now just returning to action.

And in his long lay-off, Leeds have remained in relegation peril and seen his mentor Marcelo Bielsa replaced at the helm.

Furthermore, Phillips has been the subject of plenty of speculation in recent weeks. With a contract due to expire in 2024, Leeds and Phillips have a big decision to make this summer.

Indeed, the West Yorkshire side would maximise his value by cashing in this summer. And amid the speculation on his future, reports have touted Phillips for possible moves to a variety of clubs.

Those rumours have seen Phillips linked with the likes of Aston Villa, West Ham and Newcastle. More worryingly, one report even detailed how a leading agent plans to get Phillips to Liverpool.
