Man Utd learn Erik Ten Hag release clause as Red Devils feeling about manager cost comes true

Manchester United will have to pay £1.7million to release manager target Erik ten Hag from his Ajax contract, according to a report.

The Red Devils’ pursuit of a new boss to replace Ralf Rangnick has shifted gear in recent weeks. While Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino remains a contender, talk over Ten Hag taking over has ramped up.

The 52-year-old Dutchman held his first interview with Old Trafford chiefs last week.

While both sides reportedly raised concerns over agreeing a deal, Ten Hag has not denied the interest.

He has insisted that he remains fully-focused on Ajax’s season. The Amsterdam giants are looking to secure a third Eredivisie title under his stewardship following their Champions League last-16 defeat to Benfica.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Man Utd will have to pay £1.7million to prise him out before he becomes a free agent.

United reportedly did not expect to have to pay too hefty a release clause for Ten Hag amid his contractual situation.

And their initial prediction has come true, as they hope to get a new manager sorted in the next few weeks.

The release clause for Pochettino at PSG is significantly higher. Reports from The Times in May last year quoted a £10million figure.

The Argentine former Tottenham boss extended his contract last summer and his deal also runs out in 2023.
