Klopp says key Liverpool trait was best he’s seen ‘for a long time’; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez jibe

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to go in-depth with his analysis of the Reds’ win over Watford, instead lauding his side’s “desire” and “maturity”.

Liverpool were not at their best upon their return from the final international break of the domestic season. They had several stars returning from long trips, including Brazilian stars Alisson Becker and Fabinho.

The Reds subsequently failed to create too many clear-cut chances at Anfield.

Nevertheless, Watford did excellently to keep Liverpool at bay. Their stoic defending throughout more than played its part.

But for Klopp at this stage in the season, it is all about the result. And the Reds moved two points clear at the top of the Premier League ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Burnley.

Klopp told BT Sport: “I said to the boys, everyone wants to analyse the game. I will not deliver that, I am not interested today because we had to get through this.

“All the teams are in the same situation, obviously, but when you have to dominate a game it’s slightly more difficult.

“Big compliments to Watford, especially Roy [Hodgson] who when we bring him back when he is 80 he will set up and organise a team in a really good way.

“They defended the spaces really well. We definitely could have done better, but it’s not too interesting today. We needed maturity and desire.”

Klopp also labelled his side’s counter-pressing as the “best I saw for long time”.
