Arsenal star Saka urged to hold back on contract talks for one major reason

Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has been urged to hold back on signing a new contract with the club until he sees where the Gunners finish in the table, amid reported interest from Liverpool.

The England attacker has had an outstanding season for the Gunners, with talk of a more lucrative contract offer being on the table. However, nothing has been signed or sealed just yet – and Saka has been told to bide his time, for now.

Former Leeds and Middlesbrough forward Noel Whelan suggests the player needs to evaluate his situation when the dust has settled on the current campaign.

Saka is currently one of the lowest earners at The Emirates, having signed a fresh deal in 2020.

While Arsenal are keen to tie the player down soon, much depends on whether they secure Champions League football – according to Whelan.

He told Football Insider: “Right now, if I was Saka, I’d be holding out on the contract I’ve already got.

“I’d be seeing if we are in the Champions League and then having discussions with the manager.

“Champions League football, for me, is huge, especially when someone’s playing at the top of the game. Someone that’s so important, someone so young.

“For me, playing the way he’s playing, I wouldn’t be thinking about another contract just yet. I’d be thinking of doing my very best for Arsenal.

“If we get in the Champions League, that’s where I want to play, then contract negotiations can start.”
