Paul Pogba has moved a step closer to leaving Manchester United after declaring that the season is ‘dead’ and his last five years at Old Trafford have left him unfulfilled.

Pogba will become a free agent when his contract runs out on June 30, and the Frenchman is set to wait until then before deciding on his next move. He has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Juventus.

It is very unlikely that Pogba and United will agree new terms, but there is consternation in the 29-year-old midfielder’s camp that he is to blame for the impasse that means he will leave Old Trafford for nothing for a second time.

United will finish the season empty-handed for the fifth year in a row and Pogba – who scored in the 2017 Europa League final when the club last lifted a trophy – says he wants to play for a team challenging for honours.

‘You have to be honest, the last five seasons have not satisfied me – really not at all,’ Pogba said in an interview with Le Figaro.
