Watford readying late move for £20m-rated Championship striker Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo Bristol City January 2022

Watford are readying a late bid to sign Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo, according to TEAMtalk sources.

The Hornets did plenty of business earlier in the month with the arrivals of Edo Kayembe, Samir, Hassane Kamara and Samuel Kalu. So it was expected they would not delve into the market under new boss Roy Hodgson.

But TEAMtalk understands Hodgson is planning to make a move for 22-year-old Chelsea-born striker Semenyo.

The Championship side though are desperate to keep the player who has been in brilliant form. He has four goals and five assists in the last 11 games after returning from injury.

Nottingham Forest have also made contact too, but the Robins are hoping to keep hold of the former Newport man.

According to BristolLive Forest  made a bid on Monday morning for the attacker, but it fell a long way short of City’s £20m valuation.

Semenyo is under contract until 2023, with the option of a further 12 months.

He scored the second goal in the 2-2 draw with Preston at the weekend and he has been attracting a growing number of scouts.

Ramsay interest

Watford were reported to be set to rival Leeds in a deadline-day bid to sign Aberdeen full-back Calvin Ramsay.

TalkSPORT claimed the Hornets were interested in the young defender who has been linked with Bologna.

Dons boss Stephen Glass has said speculation linking the 18-year-old with a move away “has definitely affected him a touch”.

Scotland under-21 international Ramsay is contracted at Pittodrie until 2024.
