Men’s Soccer Lands Five All-Conference Honors

2021 All-Conference Teams



BOSTON – The University at Albany men’s soccer program saw five players named to the 2021 America East All-Conference teams, the league announced Thursday.  Seniors Austin DaSilva and Carlos Tofern, junior Neophytos Scottis, and freshmen Jay Alves and Saad Faiz were the Great Danes recognized in this season’s awards.
 
DaSilva, a forward from Brookfield, Conn., was named All-Conference Second Team.  DaSilva, the 2019 America East Striker of the Year, leads the team in 2021 in assists this season with five, to go along with one goal. 
 
Scottis, a defender from Nicosia, Cyprus, was named All-Conference Second Team.  On a back line that has allowed 1.12 goals per game, Scottis has appeared in 16 games, made 15 starts, and scored one goal with one assist.
 
Alves, a defender from Centereach, N.Y., was named All-Rookie.  Alves has made six starts in his first season while appearing in 14 games with over 700 minutes on the field.
 
Faiz, a forward from Casablanca, Morocco, was named All-Rookie.  Faiz has scored one goal and recorded one assist this season, making nine starts and appearing in 16 games.
 
Tofern, a senior from Hamburg, Germany, was UAlbany’s lone representative on the All-Academic team.  Tofern has accumulated a 3.91 GPA studying Business Administration.  On the field, Tofern has gone 7-6-1 with five shutouts behind a 1.11 goals-against average and a .714 save percentage.
 
Major awards will be announced on Tuesday, November 9.
 
UAlbany hosts six-seed NJIT in the America East quarterfinal round on November 6.
