Virginia Tech falls to No. 20 Pitt 2-1


PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Virginia Tech ends the regular season with a 2-1 loss to No. 20 Pitt on Thursday at the Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. 

Tech ends the regular season with an overall record of 7-8-3 and 4-6 in the ACC. 

How it Happened

Tech looked to gain an early lead against Pitt as Natalie Mitchell took two shots on goal in the first five minutes. 

After the first 10 minutes of play, Pitt took control of the match taking six unanswered shots. Pitt’s Landy Mertz put the Panthers on the board scoring in the 18th minute. The Hokies headed into the locker room down by one after the first 45 minutes with a 12-4 shot deficit. 

The Panthers increased their lead to 2-0 in the 76th minute as Samiah Phiri chipped the ball over goalkeeper Alia Skinner

Natalie Mitchell prevented the shutout scoring her ninth goal of the season in the 84th minute.
