CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Washington State women’s soccer team (9-5-3, 2-4-3) tied the Oregon State Beavers (3-8-6, 0-6-3), 2-2, Thursday night at Lorenz Field. WSU freshmen Reagan Kotschau and Naomi Clark scored equalizing goals in the first and second half to earn the draw against the Beavers in Corvallis, Ore.
Oregon State scored the opening goal in the 29th minute, courtesy of McKenna Martinez. The goal came after a flurry of Washington State shots, including a pair of early strikes from Cougar senior Margie Detrizio that forced early Beaver saves.
Less than five minutes later, the Cougars equalized when freshman Reagan Kotschau delivered a right-footed strike from the top of the area, into the far-post upper corner. Kotschau netted her fourth goal of the season when fellow freshman Megan Santa Cruz kept her feet with a defender on her hip and laid the pass off to Kotschau for the finish.
Santa Cruz earned her second assist of the year to bring the Cougars level in the half. WSU continued to find opportunities in the attacking third, firing off 11 first-half shots.
Returning from halftime, Washington State continued to control the flow of the game, building up chances through the midfield. WSU’s Clark fired off five early shots in the second half, hunting the game-leading goal for the Cougars.
