May 1, 2022 – United Soccer League One (USL1) – FC Tucson News Release
Two goals in the second half propelled South Georgia Tormenta FC to a 2-0 victory over FC Tucson at Kino North Stadium on Saturday night.
The resolute South Georgia defense that had given up only two league goals to start the season could not be broken down by FC Tucson and ended up having the better chances in a scoreless second half.
For the first 10 minutes after the break, FC Tucson came out with a desire to break the deadlock. But the Tormenta smothered every chance, either by blocking a shot or having multiple men smother the man with the ball.
South Georgia broke the scoreless deadlock in the 61st minute when Adrian Billhardt’s long shot from in front of the goal gave the Tormenta just its third score of the season.
After FC Tucson lost a man to a second yellow, South Georgia picked up the pressure and netted a second goal in the 84th off a shot by Barakatulla Sharifi.
