March 17, 2023 – United Soccer League Championship (USL) – Detroit City FC News Release
El Paso, Texas – Detroit City FC will be looking to earn their first points of the season this Saturday night in El Paso, Texas as they take on the El Paso Locomotive of the USL Championship’s Western Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 PM eastern and streaming is available on ESPN+.
Getting points on Saturday night will not be an easy task for Le Rouge as they are up against an El Paso Locomotive side that is fresh off of a heartbreaking defeat in the depths of stoppage time to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Wednesday night. El Paso is also looking for their first points of the season after losing to Sacramento Republic FC by a score of 1-0 on 3/11.
Detroit City FC struggled to create many clear-cut chances last weekend on the road to San Diego Loyal SC, doing well to get into forward attacking positions but just lacked the final, decisive ball to find the back of the net. They came the closest through the foot of newcomer Skage Simonsen who turned his defender and forced a great diving save out of Koke Vegas, the San Diego keeper. They were unable to equalize and avenge San Diego’s first half goal, losing by a score of 1-0.
These two sides have met once before, last year at Keyworth Stadium, a match that was nationally televised on ESPN and a match which was played in front of a sold out crowd at Keyworth Stadium, the clubs first ever presale sellout. This prior meeting ended in a 1-1 draw. Pato Botello Faz opened the scoring in the match, putting Detroit City FC ahead with a first half finish in a congested penalty area. The lead would not last long, though, as El Paso equalized before the sides went into the locker room for the break but neither team was able to break the deadlock in the second half meaning the points were shared.
Le Rouge will try to take advantage of tired legs with this being the third match that the Locomotive will be playing in the first week of the USL Championship regular season. In order to do this, Detroit City FC will have to be wary of El Paso’s lethal forward Luis Solignac who netted 16 goals and registered five assists last season for El Paso in the USL Championship, his most prolific season yet with the club.
Following their match on the road to El Paso Locomotive FC, Detroit City FC will return home for their 2023 home opener against Indy Eleven FC of the Eastern Conference,…
